  • Overview

    We are looking for a Material Science/ Metallurgical Engineer with mechanical and materials failure analysis experience.     Responsibilities

    In this key position, you will perform engineering evaluations of failed industrial and consumer products, analyses of equipment and machinery design, and evaluations of industrial failures of all types. Experience in coordinating and participating in metallurgical laboratory analyses, including SEM, EDS, chemistry, and x-ray examinations is desired.  You will also assist with analyzing the cause of failures in pipelines, oilfield equipment, refinery and other industrial plant equipment, offshore platforms, cathodic protection, tanks and pressure vessels, welding practices and quality, vehicle mechanical components and inspecting passenger and commercial vehicles.  Failure analysis may include nonferrous, polymeric and composite materials.  Knowledge of national codes and standards related to design, fabrication, and testing of welded structures and vessels would be a plus.  Prepare oral and written reports that document observations, analysis, and conclusions. Other duties include gathering photographic evidence, conducting investigations to document operating conditions and overseeing laboratory testing by third parties.  You may be called upon to deliver expert witness testimony in deposition and trial. 

    Qualifications

    • Ph.D. in Materials Science or Metallurgy with 10-15 years’ experience
    • P.E. License not required if candidate has Ph.D. but beneficial
    • HAZWOPER, Safety and/or Fire Investigation certifications (preferred)
    • Independent judgment; strong analytical skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills 
    • Must have knowledge of a variety of computer software applications (MSWord, Excel, and PowerPoint)
    • Knowledge of national codes and standards related to design, fabrication, and testing of welded structures and vessels would be a plus.
