Rimkus’s Salt Lake City office is currently seeking an entry to mid-level Mechanical Engineering Forensic Consultant with interest and/or broad experience in product design, equipment design, MEP, or HVAC systems. Experience in the automotive or commercial vehicle industries is a plus.   An ability or desire to pursue vehicular accident reconstruction (VAR) expertise is desired also for the candidate, but not required.  In this position you will apply your technical knowledge to help assess and determine the origin and cause of complex and unique problems for our clients.   You will draw upon your engineering training, experience, and reasoning skills to form opinions and conclusions to assist our clients.   • Responsibilities include conducting field investigations and performing engineering cause and origin analysis of failures, as well as accident analysis involving various types of vehicles and mechanical equipment located in industrial, commercial, and residential settings, including construction and traffic-related incidents.  
  • Work part of a team, with other engineering specialties, to determine the origin and root cause of failures and incidents.
  • Perform timely, accurate analysis, prepare reports, and present your findings to our client and other interested parties. You must be able to manage several projects simultaneously and be detail orientated including the management and communication of scope, schedule, and budget on assigned projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including professional, clear, and concise communication with clients and other parties involved in insurance or litigated matters is essential. Report writing skills, and the use of Microsoft Word, are required. 



  • S. Mechanical Engineering degree is required.  MS in Mechanical Engineering is a plus.
  • Engineering Intern (EI) required. P.E. or ability to obtain in future desired.
  • 2-8 years of experience desired, with consulting experience a plus.
  • Must excel in technical writing, communication, and client management skills.
  • Requires frequent local or regional travel. Also requires the physical ability to climb and carry ladders, walk on uneven and unleveled surfaces, enter and work in tight and low headroom spaces, and crawl around/maneuver equipment and inspect various types of systems, components and/or vehicles during inspections of such.
  • Ability to deliver technical presentations to large audiences.
  • Ability and willingness to adapt and respond to emergent needs of clients in a timely manner.
